I bought the Sony SEL55F18Z about a month ago and am loving it. It is very sharp and focused very fast! However, there are some noise produced by the aperture blades when switching the camera on and off and when adjusting the aperture, which can be slightly annoying at times. But other than that, it is an excellent lens to have.

Extremely recommended for a portrait. 55mm doesn't not distort the image as much as 35mm and Sony 35mmf1.8 can't even get the focus right.

Extremely sharp lens in such a compact size, auto focus is fast and accurate. No regret buying it even on 2020. However, the lens hood seem to be a little loose when attached on the lens in working condition pointing out, can be easily loosen and fell off with very little pressure but it can be tighten securely when installed backward in storage condition.Not sure if it is the lens or hood problem.....

So happy at how lightweight it is, plus the lens is sharp and have that creamy nice bokeh. Love this lens.

This is a good lens for video/photo, sharp, nice bokeh! But Minimal focus distance is a little too far.

You cannot go wrong with Zeiss standard prime lens although the focal length is 5mm longer. There is no auto/manual switch and a higher price as expected on Zeiss. Lens focus is fast and sharp even in low light situations. My only dislike is the minimum focus distance is more than 1.5 feet which means you cannot focus closer in tight spaces. This lens is more suitable for portrait and scenery photography.

Hi just bought this lens last month ago, i use this lens with my A7rii, the image took is super hart, fast focus, light weight , definitely is the best lens for portrait in full frame Sony A7 series!

I bought this to replace my FE 50mm F1.8, and was absolutely glad I did. This is weather proof, so unlike the last one, I didn't need to keep cleaning dust. Also, the Zeiss lens is just gorgeous. Love this lens to bits.

I've heard good things about this lens. Seeing it for myself however is a different matter. I am not a professional photographer by any means but I do feel that this lens will be a great gem in any photographer's arsenal. It is extremely sharp! At it's price, it's a no-brainer.

I bought a month ago with 85mm 1.8. This lens is superb! small but power! the output image very sharp and the bokeh very nice. This lens my best pair with my A7riii.

Just got this lens a few days ago and it's everything you read about from experts: sharp as hattori hanzo's steel, fast auto-focus performance even in low light conditions, great bokeh for a f1.8 lens and super portable. My only complaint (albeit minor) is that contrast could a be a bit better/punchier and it would also be great to have a manual focus switch toggle with mechanical focus ring.

The focus ring needs to redesign or at least re-thinking. It's an electric focus ring. So why not to give the option to the user. To choose which focus method we would like to use? You can simulate the mechanical focus method. And if we set it to auto-focusing mode. Could you please assign another function to the ring? Like change ISO/ Speed/aperture/none. Just give users the option, please!

I bought this lens 2 month ago, only been use for 3 time, at first i put my iso in auto mode , the picture seems to be a bit blur when i zoom in , then i was pretty sad about the the money i invested in ( with the A7R3 ) , then i try to do some research in network , found that i need to adjust the iso to 100, after that magic happen , all my image is crystal sharp and clear ( Sorry im new to this kind of camera ) , so now im still in the learning curve of Sony mirrorless , and will invest more lens that can bring my skill to next level

everything is great about this lens, from the small size to the sharpness of the image. build quality is good too! only complain is the amount of Chromatic aberration/color fringing. if not i would give it 5 stars!

This is the only lens I own since purchasing the A7III, and I am glad I chose this. It is extremely sharp, awesome bokeh and lovely for filming B-roll and taking portraits. I highly recommend it, it's gonna stay with you for a long time.

The lens was a good combination with my 16-35mm lens and A7R2. The images turned out really great. The lens is very handy and portable to carry around. Low light images were great too.

I heard very good reviews about this lens for a lot before I made a purchase. However, when I use it for very first time it perform beyond my expectation. Its picture quality is superb with my a7rII and it is so light that I can carry anywhere. It worth every penny for the price they asked for.

Bought this lens two weeks ago and the photos taken with the lens and the Sony A7 Mk II were very sharp. The background blur effect is good when isolating the subject. If OSS is included in the Lens it will have stabilization when use with A7s. Overall rating would have been Excellent if there is OSS.
